Australian Sailing Keelboat Program

Australia’s fastest growing program and the best course to acquire and develop the skills of sailing to become an active club member and sailor. It is nationally recognised and designed specifically for adults to become involved in small keelboats and sportsboat competition that also appeals to people wishing to learn the ropes to go day sailing and cruising. 

Courses are run over a weekend (12 hours) and include a Yachting Australia Log Book, “Introductory to Keelboat” text and Yachting Australia certificate.

Course Pathway

Level 1

Start Crewing

An introduction to the basics of sailing on a small boat, including boat handling, safety and sailing theory.

Start Helming

Designed to improve your sailing skills by building on your practical and theory knowledge



Level 2

Start Skippering

Advanced sailing skills and safety knowledge to enable you to sail unsupervised in sheltered waters.



Level 3


This Course aims to give participants a thorough grounding in using asymmetrical and symmetrical spinnakers.

Start Racing

Learn the basic racing rules and manoeuvres and gain an understanding of what is expected of a racing crew on a small boat.
